Daniel Levy insists that Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer budget will not be impacted by the move into their new stadium, according to the minutes of a meeting published by the club’s Supporters Trust.
Spurs’ supremo met with a number of representatives of the trust and was asked a number of questions regarding the club’s future.
What’s the word?
Spurs have not signed a single player in the past two transfer windows, with their last permanent signing being Lucas Moura in January of last year.
But Levy has insisted that there is money set aside for transfers this summer and that the haul has not been affected by the costs associated with opening the club’s new stadium.
The minutes claim that Levy was asked if the transfer kitty had diminished in recent months, to which the following answer was given: “DL (Daniel Levy) said no. The fact that stadium costs had risen does not impact that number.”
The minutes add: “There is a certain amount the club wants to invest in the team. If players are sold, that amount increases.”
Per the transcript, Levy also spoke of the requirement for the club to sign more homegrown players.
Good news for Spurs
There have been a few social media jokes at Spurs’ expense by their own fans since the release of the minutes, with many speculating that the number associated with the budget is zero pounds and zero pence.
However, this is surely good news for the club, provided Levy is telling the truth.
One feels that this is a key summer for Spurs as they look to refresh the squad amid the opening of the new stadium.
Levy’s words hint at a transfer strategy that will see them target British players throughout the summer and that, too, is exciting given the sheer number of excellent young talents coming through in the UK.
It might finally be time for the club to break their transfer duck and actually add some talent to the squad for the first time in over a year.
