All-time great Woods – along with fellow golfing superstar Rory McIlroy, who is a big Manchester United fan – has created the TGL event – a three-on-three competition that pitches the world’s best against one another over 15 holes. Matches are staged under a dome and feature state-of-the-art simulator technology – with greens rotating on a turntable to create different contours.

Stones is a big golf fan and is becoming an investor in the San Francisco TGL team – with the England international being joined in that venture by Apex Capital and Formula One driver Alex Albon. Apex have said in a statement that Stones and Albon will “participate in TGL events, including pro-am tournaments and charity events”.

The new investors will join those already on board, which include legendary tennis sisters Venus and Serena Williams, NBA icon Steph Curry and the Fenway Sports Group that owns the Boston Red Sox baseball franchise and Premier League giants Liverpool.
WHAT NEXT?
The TGL league is expected to start in 2025, with six teams lined up. They will compete at a domed arena in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, with matches taking place over two hours. The intention is for the inaugural tournament to have been completed in time for the 2025 Masters – which takes place in April at Augusta National.
