Manchester City took the spoils on the field, with Pep Guardiola overseeing a record-breaking fourth-consecutive top-flight triumph. Off the pitch, and first prize in the virtual stakes was claimed by an FPL veteran from Norway.

Jonas Sand Labakk has emerged victorious after picking up more points than the other 10.9m players to have pieced together a team in 2023-24. He has said: “Winning FPL… wow! I have no words. Don’t know what to say, but I have a bottle of champagne in the freezer! It means a lot to me. I have played this game since I was a little kid, winning is a dream that never even struck my mind!”

The name of the winning team was Onkel Blaa and it finished with a total points tally of 2,799. Labakk’s final selection for gameweek 38 saw him call upon Chelsea goalkeeper Dorde Petrovic, a defensive trio of Josko Gvardiol, Pedro Porro and Gabriel Magalhaes, Cole Palmer, Alejandro Garnacho, Phil Foden and Heung-min Son in midfield and Nicolas Jackson, Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland (who was captain) in attack. On the bench were Jordan Pickford, Bukayo Saka, Dan Burn and Diogo Dalot.
