Tottenham should be keeping a close eye on developments over at Celtic regarding the situation of Oliver Ntcham, as they seek midfield reinforcements following the departure of Mousa Dembele to China and Victor Wanyama’s injury problems.
What’s the word, then?
As we’ve seen already in the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Wanyama and Fraser Forster in his first few seasons in England, there have been quite a few success stories for players who have swapped Celtic for the Premier League – it is a league where players have been able to slot in straight away and don’t need much time to settle.
It was Spurs themselves who benefited massively from signing Kenyan midfielder Wanyama from Southampton, who was a consistently outstanding performer before injury issues set in – the north Londoners are now open to offers for the 27-year-old as they look to overhaul their midfield.
As aforementioned, Spurs have already lost Dembele, who was a huge performer for them before he too struggled with injuries, so a new midfielder is definitely needed – Ntcham could be excellent value if they decide to pursue his signature.
What could Ntcham bring?
Well, according to The Sun, the Frenchman is being strongly linked with a £14m move to Porto, who are willing to offer Chancel Mbemba as a makeweight.
The 22-year-old only signed a new four-year deal with the Scottish giants back in November, but he could be an exceptional bargain buy for Mauricio Pochettino as he is equally capable of playing in an attacking midfield role as well as in the centre.
Additionally, a shrewd move for the former Manchester City man would be an ideal signing as debts from the construction of the new stadium continue to rack up, which may negatively effect Spurs’ business in the market – they didn’t sign a single player in the summer, and are yet to sign anyone this month.
