Manchester City have refused to pay out the remaining year of Craig Bellamy’s contract, with the Wales international potentially set to spend a season in the reserves.
The former Celtic and Newcastle attacker has one year left on his contract at Eastlands and has been told he is not part of Roberto Mancini’s plans and can leave the club on a free transfer.
Despite this, Bellamy earns £95,000-a-week, and the Premier League side have said that they will not pay out the remainder of his current deal, which is worth £4.6 million.
Due to this, the 32-year-old may have to make do with reserve football if he wants to recuperate the financial benefit of his lucrative City deal.
Both Liverpool and Tottenham are thought to be interested in signing the Cardiff born forward before the transfer window closes on Wednesday night according to The Telegraph, but any move would depend on Bellamy dramatically reducing his current wages.
City will name their 25 man squad for the Premier League on September 1st, with Bellamy likely to be excluded due to the number of attackers ahead of him in Mancini’s preferences.
